Salma Begum
Assistant Head Teacher (Secondary)
I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new Assistant Headteacher at this esteemed institution. Joining a school renowned for its commitment to academic excellence and holistic education is a privilege, and I am excited to contribute to its continued success.
I bring with me 14 years of teaching experience in the UK, all dedicated to English Language and Literature within the British curriculum at both GCSE and A Level. I hold a BA in English Literature from Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London, and my professional development includes earning both the NPQML (National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership) and NPQSL (National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership) from University College London.
Over the course of my career, I have had the privilege of serving in various roles: two years as a classroom teacher, eight years as a middle leader, and two years as an Assistant Headteacher. As a middle leader, I led English departments to achieve national recognition, winning the Times Education Supplement (TES) Award for the Best English Department in the UK for two consecutive years at one school and again at another school under my leadership. These accomplishments reflect my commitment to fostering academic excellence and creating enriching learning environments.
My philosophy on education is deeply rooted in the belief that every child has the potential to learn and should be encouraged and inspired to do so. I adopt a firm but fair approach, maintaining high expectations for all pupils. My ultimate goal is to empower students to become the best versions of themselves, equipped with the skills, knowledge, and resilience to achieve success in whatever they choose to pursue.
I am committed to building strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to create a collaborative and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. I look forward to working closely with the GEMS Cambridge International School community to ensure that our students excel at both GCSE and A Level, preparing them for a future filled with opportunity and success.
